Welcome to our friendly walking group; we provide a wide-ranging programme covering the varied countryside around Reading. south Oxfordshire, the mid-Thames and Pang valleys. So our major patch covers the Chilterns, West Berkshire and the Downs, much of this classified as Areas of Outstanding Natural Beauty.
The side panel shows our forthcoming walks. These vary in length and difficulty to suit degrees of fitness. The shortest walks tend to be on Saturdays, with a leisurely pace to enjoy the countryside and historic buildings. The midweek walks on Wednesday mornings are around 5 miles, generally followed with an optional pub lunch. Sunday has morning walks around this length and/or longer walks with a sandwich lunch break. In the summer we have some short mid-week evening walks, with social time at a local pub afterwards.
Our experienced walk leaders will be familiar with the walk and points of interest. While the leaders will try to ensure that there are no unexpected problems, you are expected to be sensibly equipped. (See our other walking advice) For those not used to walking we suggest that you start unambitiously with some shorter walks. You will be surprised how quickly you find a distance that is comfortable to you.
Walking is the backbone of what we do. But there are other things as well, some walking and some not. Each year we organise a walking week usually in the UK, but sometimes abroad, and a long autumn weekend walking. We run a quiz and other social events. If that is not to your taste then nothing is compulsory!
We look forward to meeting you. You are welcome to try a few walks before joining. If you join us (Ramblers Group code BK05) you will receive an expanded 4 month programme, with more details. For further information, email us.
If we have to cancel or update a walk we will amend the on-line walk information and put a banner on the homepage. We will also email members who have opted in to receive these.
