Twenty two members of PVR met at the Pines Hotel in Swanage for the annual autumn walking weekend. We walked on Friday afternoon, Saturday and Sunday around the Swanage area, in lovely weather!

On Friday afternoon Sue and Gordon led us along the front at Swanage and up to Durlston Castle where we had tea and cake before wending our way along a drover’s trail back to Swanage to witness some of its architectural splendour and quirks. On Saturday morning we took the Swanage Railway steam-hauled train to Corfe Castle and walked back to our hotel taking in part of the Purbeck Way and beautiful views of Old Harry and Swanage Bay. On Sunday we drove to Worth Maltravers before striding across the fields to pick up the coastal path at Dancing Ledges and following the coast to St Aldhelm’s Chapel and back to a very welcoming 1950’s style tea room in Worth Maltravers for the obligatory cream tea.
The hotel was clean and comfortable, the food was excellent and the staff were extremely helpful and friendly. Add to this the fact that the weather stayed fine with some warm sun, it was a thoroughly enjoyable weekend.
Very many thanks to Barbara for arranging the accommodation and leading the long walks and to Sue and Gordon for their assistance and research. I know I speak for everyone when I say it was a first class weekend and we greatly appreciate all your effort.

I am just back from the PVRA Walking weekend at Swanage, which I enjoyed immensely. The trip was well organised by Barbara, the hotel was excellent (food service & rooms all VG) & the group of 22 of us seemed to get on well together. As the newest member there I found everyone welcomed me into the group. The weather was also warm & fine with blue skies, the walks were challenging but just right.
