A 4 mile walk followed by tea and cakes in the Village Hall in Checkendon.

On a beautiful warm late spring Sunday day in May, seventeen of us met at Checkendon village hall for a 4 mile ramble to see the bluebells which flower their masses in the beech woods all around the area. The village is a picture post card ‘olde worlde’ gathering of cottages and Arts and Craft style houses around the church, school, village hall and village green where to complete the picture a cricket match was in progress, with men in their white cricketing gear and a few spectators gathered around the boundaries who clapped when boundaries were struck.
Our walk leaders, led us off through the village and we soon entered the woods where we saw masses of bluebells. Our circular route led us back close to Checkendon Court, a lovely large old house dating from the 17th century, with its own ha-ha, tightly clipped Yew hedges and flat topped Yews along the drive to the house.
Finally back to the village hall at the end of our walk where most of us had tea and cakes, the homemade cakes and tea where welcome as we thought we had all earned some refreshment our walk. We thanked the organisers for a lovely walk.
