Pre-Lunch Walk & CHRISTMAS LUNCH at the Pack Horse
On the 7th December 2022 nineteen Pang valley Ramblers gathered on the doorstep of the Pack horse for the start of our pre-Christmas lunch walk.
The weather was bright as only a cold winter sunny day can be and despite many woolly hats,gloves and puffy coats I never heard anyone’s teeth rattling or falling out! So the weather and our walk leader did us proud.
We set off across the main A4074 with the traffic that was speeding either towards Reading or racing as fast as possible away from it. The main thing was that all nineteen of us managed to make it to the field on the other side and better still back again after a walk across fields through narrow gaps in hedges and passed what in my opinion should have been a house made of gingerbread. This was a thatched cottage at Tinkers Green playing its part on our Christmas walk. We walked down a country Lane across a field towards Tokers Green where we again braved the main road with no casualties reported.
Turned left at the end of Rokeby Road and walked back through woods that were surprisingly not too muddy. Here we thanked Michael for delivering us back to the Pack Horse in time for a drink before lunch.
There were three tables set up for the Pang Valley lunch goers. I think we were joined by at least fifteen non-walkers. The first course arrived very quickly and thanks to Diana and her paperwork by then we all knew what we had ordered. The starters looked very appealing and if like me you did not have one it made my tummy rumble. The main course arrived very efficiently and those of us that had turkey and my neighbours with their venison pie seemed very content. I only heard one complaint and that was that the food was cold. Serving thirty plus people I think this person was unfortunate and had drawn the short straw. The desserts all looked fantastic and mine was delicious and very chocolatey (I did feel as if we should have had a longer walk or maybe I should have eaten less or walked home).
Despite trying hard I cannot find a single reason why I wouldn’t be joining the walk and the lunch next year. Thank you Michael and Diana for a happy beginning to Christmas.
