On Saturday 6 December there will be a coach trip to the Christmas markets in Winchester with various optional Christmas activities available including a 3.5 mile walk.
The coach will pick up in Sonning Common and Pangbourne and drive to Winchester. The market, inspired by a traditional German market is situated in the Cathedral’s historic Inner Close and surrounds an open air ice rink. This market is recognised as one of the best in Europe. High quality exhibitors, wonderful Christmas gifts and delicious food will be available. Winchester is an interesting city and you can spend all day exploring it. Susan and Peter Twitchett will lead a circular walk starting at 2.00pm through the streets of the city, along the riverside and through the water meadows; an easy, level walk with three stiles. There are several optional extras that might be of interest, but are not essential to the enjoyment of your day. The Cathedral is magnificent with guided tours to see the treasures, the crypt and the exhibition of the life of Jane Austen (a 40-minute guided mini tour for 15 visitors costs £3.50 per head and the last mini tour is at 3.30pm). We haven’t planned a day like this before, so please sign up to come; it should be an excellent day out. Book using the form in the Autumn Newsletter by 1st November, the earlier the better. Do bring a friend along too; we would like to fill our 49 seat coach. The cost is £14:50 per person. If we do not get sufficient demand then this trip will be cancelled and your money refunded.

We will leave Winchester at 5:00pm and the estimated return time is 7:00pm.
