There is a course organised by one of the East Berks Group Walk Leaders which should help to improve OS map reading, and compass work. It will also cover basic leadership, so that in time the participants will be able to lead walks. This course should make them confident to read a local map, and find their way in normal weather conditions. (He does not propose to teach how to walk across Dartmoor in a fog!). The course will be in May or early June.
There will be two indoor sessions in the evening, and one all day practical session, all in one week, on a date in May or early June. The course will be run at cost at Winter Hill Golf Club, and last year cost £5, but it depends on numbers. Requirements are a local OS map and a compass, preferably De Silva Expedition 4 (or a compass with swivelling, clear Perspex base plate).
