CROSSING THE THAMES
Information on the Thames crossings at Sonning and Reading:
SONNING
The road works in 2014 only REPAIRED the flood damage. If funding becomes available there are plans to carry out more work in the future to raise the road above the flood level.
READING
Work is currently being carried out on Reading Bridge which may lead to congestion. This is not due to be completed until Summer 2015.

WHITCHURCH BRIDGE CLOSURE
The latest news on the re-opening of Whitchurch Bridge is that the bridge company is planning to re-open the bridge to road traffic some time in September 2014. However there are still risks in the work programme and as these are resolved there will be further updates on the re-opening date.
This means that if you need to cross the Thames to get to any of the walks in our September to November Programme you may need to allow extra time going via Goring or Reading.

WHITCHURCH BRIDGE CLOSURE – RE-OPENING DATE PUT BACK
Work on the dismantling of the old bridge has had to stop because of the ongoing heavy rains and the high river levels. The Whitchurch Bridge Company regrets to announce that the re-opening of the Bridge to road traffic has been put back from 14th April 2014 (the originally advertised date) to July 2014. There is a temporary bridge for pedestrians and cyclists. Further details can be found on Whitchurch Bridge Website.
SONNING BRIDGE OPEN
The weekday day-time roadworks on Sonning Bridge are finished and the bridge is now open as usual.
WALKS ON SUNDAY 6 OCTOBER
A late reminder that the Whitchurch Toll Bridge is now closed for reconstruction and therefore will not be available for getting to the start points by car for the Pang Valley Group walks from Stoke Row and Pangbourne on 6th October 2013.
SONNING BRIDGE CLOSURE IN OCTOBER/NOVEMBER 2013
Sonning Bridge will be closed from Monday 28 October to Monday 11 November from 9:30 to 16:00, while the traffic lights are upgraded and structural works are carried out. This will further increase traffic across the two Reading bridges, already affected by the closure of Whitchurch Bridge.
WALK ON 13 OCTOBER 2013 – HAMBLEDEN
On the same day, there will be The Henley Half Marathon starting from the Marlow Road at 09:30am with road closures announced. At the moment the road closures have not been specified, but approaching Hambleden from Henley on Thames will certainly be affected, with resultant delays at least. Please check on alternative travel routes (eg via Marlow) if you wish to go on the walk.
WHITCHURCH BRIDGE CLOSURE
Please be aware that if you need to cross the Thames to get to any of our walks after 2 October 2013 you will have to cross the river at Goring or in Reading. Whitchurch Bridge will be closed to vehicle traffic for reconstruction from 3 September to 14 April 2014. There will be a temporary bridge for pedestrians and cyclists.
