2013-11-24 AREA AGM 2013

SUNDAY 24 NOVEMBER 2013

This year it is our turn to host the Berkshire Area AGM. I t will be held at 2:00pm at The Purley Barn in Goosecroft Lane, Purley on Thames (LR175 655760 – post code RG8 8DR), off the A329 west of Reading off Beech Road, and opposite the Tyre and Exhaust Centre in Purley Rise. The Barn has been booked from 10:00am to 16:30.

To travel by public transport, Tilehurst is the nearest railway station, but is does mean a further 1.5mile walk from the station and it will be necessary, as it is a Sunday, to check whether engineering work is disrupting the service.

Reading buses No16 service runs half-hourly on Sundays from either Friar Street (stop FE near Hickies)or Cheapside (stopCX) and getting off at “the footpath to Highfield Road” stop on the Oxford Road, after the Goodliffe Gardens stop and before the bus turns right down New Hill into Purley Village. This is 0.5 miles from the venue and the bus ride will take about ½ hour.

The meeting will be preceded by a morning walk of about 5 miles taking in a part of the Thames Path and Sulham Woods , starting at 10:45am

Hot and cold drinks will be available after the walk and tables will be arranged for the eating of packed lunches in the hall. The nearest pubs are in Pangbourne.

Following the meeting there will be a talk by Mr Dick Greenaway, Chairman of the West Berkshire Countryside Society on the subject “Where did our woods come from?”
