A pleasant walk following the Thames, passing Withymead Nature Reserve to go through South Stoke. We walk parts of the Ridgeway ending at Little Stoke, then making our way back to Goring. The walk is a mixture of undulating woodland and fields from Checkendon skirting around Stoke Row to Wyfold (old Borocourt Hospital) with its gothic architecture before returning to Checkendon through the woodland. Start from the car parking at the foot of Swyncombe Down, Nearest Post Code OX10 6PE.Visiting Ewelme, up hill towards Ewelme Park, past Swyncombe Church, then climbing to Swyncombe Down and a steep descent to the car park. Many varieties of wild flowers in 2011, including orchids. May be muddy in parts. BRING A PACKED LUNCH.

A walk overlooking the Pang Valley between the ancient villages of Ashampstead and Hampstead Norreys, visiting an airfield used in WW2 for Wellington bombers. 2 steep hills, possibility of mud. Meet at St John the Baptist Church, St John's Road, Caversham. On road parking - 2-hour limit. 23, 28, 29 buses from Friar Street and Apex Plaza central Reading stop outside the church. A short walk over Caversham weir, along the Thames path and over Caversham Bridge to Christchurch Meadow. Coffee, tea and toasted sandwiches in the community cafe after the walk. All paved surfaces.
