2015-06-12 SUMMER TRIP 2015 – ELAN VALLEY, POWYS
Our summer walking weekend in 2015 is in the Elan Valley in Powys in Wales starting on 12th June, costing approximately £155 for two nights or £300 for four nights (with no single supplement!). The Elan Valley Lodge offers a weekend of guided walks in the fantastic surroundings of the Elan Estate, a walkers’ paradise in a beautiful setting. We will be able to book for either two nights from 12th to 14th June or four nights from 12th to 16th June, so some will be there for Friday and Saturday night, others might wish to extend the break to four nights. 2014-11-29 AREA AGM 2014 – UPDATE
This year’s Area AGM will be hosted by Loddon Valley Group at Barkham Village Hall, Church Lane (off Barkham Street), Barkham RG40 4PL on Saturday 29 November.
Before the AGM, there will be a 5 mile circular walk starting at 10:30am from Barkham Village Hall and from 12:30pm there will be tea/coffee and cake etc. available with tables and chairs for the morning walkers to eat their packed lunch.
The Area AGM meeting will start at around 2pm, followed by a talk by Pete Ellis about the final stage of his ascent of Everest in 2012. Continue reading

2014-12-06 COACH TRIP TO WINCHESTER
On Saturday 6 December there will be a coach trip to the Christmas markets in Winchester with various optional Christmas activities available including a 3.5 mile walk.
2015-02-06 FISHY QUIZ – Complete with Chips
Pang Valley Ramblers first social event of 2015 will be a Fish and Chip Supper including a General Knowledge Quiz. It will be held at Pangbourne Village Hall (where there is ample free parking) on Friday 6th February. Doors will be open at 7.00pm; the quiz will start at 7.30pm and a fish and chip supper (vegetarian option available) will be served during the interval. Continue reading
2014-05 MAP READERS AND LEADERSHIP COURSE
There is a course organised by one of the East Berks Group Walk Leaders which should help to improve OS map reading, and compass work. It will also cover basic leadership, so that in time the participants will be able to lead walks. This course should make them confident to read a local map, and find their way in normal weather conditions. (He does not propose to teach how to walk across Dartmoor in a fog!). 2014-07-27 SUMMER PICNIC AND RAMBLE
Following on from the enjoyable BBQ last year we have decided to try a slightly different format this summer: a picnic. This will be on Sunday 27 July 2014. The walk will start at 10.30 am from Upper Basildon Village Hall where there is a large car park. The 4-5 mile rambling route will take in the scenery around the village and finish around 1.30pm at Coromandel, Bethesda Street, where everyone will have a picnic lunch. Please book by 20 July. 2014-06-28 COACH TRIP TO AVEBURY
On Saturday 28 June 2014 we have arranged a coach trip and walk to Avebury. We will collect from Sonning Common and Pangbourne, drive to Avebury stopping at 10 miles and 5 miles from our destination for walkers to continue into Avebury on foot along part of the Ridgeway.
We will have some time in the village to visit the stone circle and Avebury Manor all managed by the National Trust. If you prefer to stay on the coach and spend the whole day in Avebury, then you are welcome to do so. First come first served, so book early using the booking form in the Newsletter by the 31 May, please! Continue reading
